Our Journey

Our continuing journey to feed the community

Our Story - Traditional bread making with skilled hands kneading dough

Our Story

Founded in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, Cultured Justice Baker's Guild began as a simple act of community care. What started as a few passionate bakers making sourdough at home quickly evolved into something much bigger when we began donating our fresh loaves to local food operations and mutual aid networks.

As demand grew and more people wanted to learn the art of sourdough, we expanded into online baking classes, teaching folks how to nurture their own starters and bake bread from scratch. Our virtual workshops became a lifeline for isolated community members, bringing people together around the shared ritual of bread-making during uncertain times.

Today, we've grown into a fully functioning nonprofit bakery and baking school, but our heart remains the same: using the power of bread to build community, support food justice, and teach people the skills they need to nourish themselves and their neighbors. From those first pandemic loaves to our current weekly baking club, we're proof that something as simple as sourdough can rise into a movement.

Our Mission - Community sharing fresh baked bread around a table

Our Mission

At Cultured Justice, we see baking as more than just making bread—it's a quiet kind of rebellion. It feeds us, connects us, and gives us the power to take care of ourselves and our communities. In a world that often feels disconnected and uncertain, we're all about getting back to the roots of real food and helping folks take charge of what they eat.

We're building a welcoming, down-to-earth community of bakers who care about sustainability, self-reliance, and the simple joy of making something from scratch. We love sourdough and naturally fermented breads—not just because they're tasty and good for you, but because they represent freedom from mass-produced food.

Through sharing knowledge, working together, and swapping resources, we want to help people feel confident baking their own bread, growing their own ingredients, and supporting local food systems. We stand for food justice, honesty, and making sure everyone has the right to know—and shape—what goes into their daily loaf.

Whether you've been baking for years or just pulled your first loaf out of the oven, you're welcome here. Let's rise together—one loaf at a time.
